Ammonification:
The process of conversion of complex organic compounds (plant and animal proteins) into ammonia is called ammonification. The proteins of dead plants and animals are broken down by bacteria present in the soil, which convert them into ammonium ions. A number of animals excrete urine, which contains urea.
